How long has Asphalt Paving been used?
Asphalt paving has been around for centuries; builders in Ancient Rome used it for their roads. In the early 1900’s, more Australian roads were built using bitumen because it was cheaper than other materials like brick or cobblestone and could be made into long strips that were then laid down by road crews with shovels and rakes. Later on, a new process led to small batches of pavement being created at construction sites where workers would mix up different amounts of ingredients on site before pouring them onto layers of gravel or other aggregates like sandstone chips to make an even surface layer. Today, construction crews use much more sophisticated methods.
Benefits of Asphalt Paving
- Asphalt paving is a popular, versatile material that is often used for parking lots, driveways, and other paved areas. Asphalt pavements are commonly laid on top of the subgrade to provide an even surface for vehicles to move over. They are also used in some residential areas for sidewalks, bike lanes and walking trails.
Asphalt pavements offer a number of benefits to businesses and homeowners alike. It is relatively inexpensive compared to other types of paving materials like concrete or brick; it doesn’t require any special treatment before installing like sealants or coatings; it resists wear better than many other pavement types which can be a problem because it’s flexible enough to allow uneven loads like tree roots or pipes under the pavement without cracking; it has been proven long-lasting with minimal maintenance needs; and because asphalt pavements have few joints there’s less potential for water infiltration.
